East Coast Freelancing is a privately owned consortium of professional writers, photographers and sound artists who bring together a wealth of creative experience over a variety of multimedia disciplines.

Background

Founded in 2010, East Coast Freelancing was originally created by current CEO Gary McDonald. A former soccer player, cricketer, track and field athlete, surfer, kayaker and basketball player, McDonald soon realised that his potential career-earnings as an elite athlete would more-than-likely send him broke sooner rather than later. So following a successful career as a technical writer, McDonald turned to sports writing in an effort to combine his sport-crazed passion with that of his chosen profession.

As a freelance motorsport writer and aspiring photographer, McDonald primarily covered the American-based Champ Car and Indy Car motor racing series’ from 2002 through to 2009. In more recent times, and in an effort to capitalise on multimedia technology advancements, McDonald returned to University where he is currently undertaking his Masters in Journalism.
